LIVING SPRINGS FELLOWSHIP

Praying To the Glory of God

"Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples" (Luke 11:1)

Ever since God created us, He desires to stay in close communion with us. In the Genesis account, we see that God spoke freely with Adam but sin disrupted the fellowship between God and man. Ever since then, we needed to be reconciled back to God through His gracious provision and sacrifice.

Our full fellowship with God is now made whole through the finished work of the cross and the constant intercession of Jesus on our behalf. Paul established this point to his spiritual son Timothy saying, "For there is one God and ONE MEDIATOR between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time" (1 Tim. 2:5-6) This means that we come boldly to the throne of grace and we do this by faith in prayer.

Prayer is communication with God by faith, as the Spirit helps to bring our will in conformity with God’s will. Prayer is the act of our will submitting to God and an intentional act of faith as we commune heart to heart with God. Prayer is simply the turning of a soul to God for God's purpose of glory.

Jesus taught that "men always ought to pray and not lose heart" (Luke 18:1). There is a powerful sanctifying dynamic that takes place within our souls when we pray. As the old hymn "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" goes, 'O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, All because we do not carry Everything to God in prayer!'"

Dear saint, what are you troubled by today? What is causing you to fret or worry or experience anxiety? Take it to the Lord in prayer!

Jesus said, "And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it" (John 14:13-14).

The GLORY in the Son is what is truly meant when we say "in Jesus Name".

We need to understand that when we end our prayers with something like "In Jesus Name, Amen", we are putting our concerns and cares into the almighty hands of our loving Father, who hears the intercessions of Jesus and He is working all together for our good and His glory. What matters most about our prayer life is not the specific words of our prayer but the faith in the One who is always there to show Himself strong on our behalf.

Prayer is the GREATEST PRIVILEGE that we have because we are able to connect with God and partner with Him in the great things that He does on this earth. Prayer releases our faith and reveals the power of God through the unified agreement of the corporate body of Christ. Prayer responds to the work of the Spirit and renders glory to God as a continuation of the ministry of Jesus to to change lives here on earth.

Prayer is always available to us and can consist of:

Adoration: Giving worship, honor, and praise to God
Thanksgiving: Expressing gratitude for what He has given
Confession: Admitting & agreeing with God about any sin
Supplication: Asking God to meet personal needs or desires
Intercession: Praying on behalf of others for God to intervene
Lament: Pouring out sorrow, grief, or complaints to God
Consecration: Setting self apart for God’s purpose

When prayer is coming from the heart and is not an attempt to build our REPUTATION to others, or is done in empty religious of REPETITION, or tries to mimic someone else's prayers in REPLICATION, we are always heard by the Lord because we know that Christ's REDEMPTION and our REPENTANCE opened the way for our prayers to be heard and answered.

When we understand the power of prayer and more importantly WHO IT IS THAT WE ARE PRAYING TO, nothing shall be impossible for us. As we learn from James 5:17-18, "Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit." The reason for this is that "the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much" (James 5:16).

Prayer is openly rewarded when we pray in privately in the secret place. But prayer can be even more powerful when we come together in AGREEMENT and in ONE ACCORD to allow God to hear His children in unity coming before His presence to participate with His purpose. O how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity...for there the Lord commanded the blessing!

Therefore, let us daily go to God in prayer and praise His great Name, while casting our cares and releasing our faith for answers that change more than the things that we are requesting.

Let us know that...PRAYER ALWAYS DOES THESE THREE THINGS:
  • Prayer CHANGES our hearts
Prayer EXCHANGES our will for His will
    Prayer REARRANGES our priorities
