His Prophetic Revelation
"...behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him...and behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy...Then, being divinely warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed for their own country another way." (Matt. 2:1-2,9-10,12)
Before God acts, God speaks ahead of time of what He intends to do so that we can know that it is Him whol actually does it. God is not limited by time and space or the obstacles and challenges that His creation faces. Therefore, His Word is living and powerful and so are His mighty works.
Amos the prophet put it this way, "Surely the Lord GOD does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets. A lion has roared! Who will not fear? The Lord GOD has spoken! Who can but prophesy?" (Amos 3:7-8).
Sometimes, God spoke through prophets but other times He spoke by the message of an angel or through a vision or a dream or a burning bush or a still small voice. Hebrews 1 says, "God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by HIS SON, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power" (Heb. 1:1-3).
From the beginning, God revealed ahead of time that He was going to enter into the human race and do something that only He Himself would do. He declared that He would reverse the curse and the effects of sin by a woman's Seed...which would be God's Son, Jesus, the coming Savior and Christ (Messiah "Anointed One").
Since mankind fell into rebellion through the deception of the devil, God promised that He would intervene and put enmity and separation between Satan's seed and the woman's Seed (Gen. 3:15). Isaiah the prophet made it clear that this would be A SIGN when a virgin woman would give birth to a Son, whose name would be Immanuel, which means "God with us" (Isa. 7:14).
This sign happened when Jesus was born of the virgin Mary and God revealed His redemptive plan to her honorable betrothed husband, Joseph. Although God is at work in the ordinary and seemingly mundane activities of life, He sometimes chooses to bypass the laws that He set in motion and to perform supernatural events called miracles. Miracles are 'mere clues' that reveal God's power to His people whenever He chooses to do what seems impossible to us.
When our hearts are prone to follow God's revealed Word, we will align ourselves to take part in the great works that God does from day to day. The wise men followed the prophetic revelation that was given to them and they followed God's supernatural star that led them to where Jesus was to be born. They chose to follow God's revelation rather than to live according to their own will. This kind of surrendered will is the key to being a true worshipper of God!
The wise men followed what God was doing and did not give in to the intimidation and imitation of false worship that came from the so called Herod the Great. The same paradigm still exists today between the diverse kingdoms that are contrasted between King Herod and King Jesus:
King Herod's reign was one of pride, manipulation and conceit. He ruled for his own power, prestige and popularity and even killed his wife and two sons. He mixed his political agenda with an alliance with the religious leaders and beautified the temple with his extravagance. Although they both were called kings, Jesus lived a humble life of servant leadership and obedience to God and made Himself of no reputation as the true temple of God. He did more to influence the world in three and half years than the 34 year of Herod's selfish reign.
When their lives ended, Herod died and was no more but Jesus remains alive and His kingdom is still expanding and His reign is from everlasting to everlasting! As Micah the prophet said, "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting” (Micah 5:2).
We all need to decide who we are going to serve and how we are going to live in this life. Will we be like the wise men who searched diligently to know and worship the Christ or will we live for our own vain glory? Everyone worships something or someone. May we choose each day who we are going to worship and become the wise men of today!
When God's Word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path, we will worship God through a life of obedience and enjoyment of Him. For... "Where there is no [prophetic] revelation, the people cast off restraint; But happy is he who keeps the law" (Prov. 29:18).
Let us learn to live true lives that please and honor God. Let us make decisions that align our hearts with His purpose and let our movements be based on what God's Word reveals to us.
Some further questions for consideration and heart work...
1. What are some biblical words and promises that have been guiding your thoughts and actions during this present season? Take some time to evaluate this and write them down.
2. What does your life of worship look like at this time? Are you on the pursuit to please and follow God's Word and prophetic revelation in your life? What still needs to be adjusted?
3. How can you make moves and decisions based on what God has revealed to you instead of how you feel in the moment? How can you learn to reposition yourself to wait on God and to move in His will and timing, just as Joseph and Mary did in Matthew 2:13-14,19-21?
