REVIVAL: It is Time for God to Act
"O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and act! Do not delay for Your own sake, my God, for Your city and Your people are called by Your name.” (Daniel 9:19)
When God's authority is pushed aside, mankind sins and falls short of God's glory. It is always futile for any of God's creation to act as though they are the Creator. This kind of pride repeats the very sin that caused the once beautiful cherub Lucifer to become the devil or Satan.
From the beginning, we see that Satan, the father of lies, sought to usurp God's authority by tempting Eve with the question, "Has God indeed said...?" This was an attempt to step in and seek to father God's first children. It worked. An authority shift took place. Whenever someone obeys any other voice than God's voice, they are regarding God's Law as void and living under a different authority.
When man attempts to be in control, then Satan is actually given control.
Since God's Word reveals God's will, God's laws, God's ways, and God's judgments, any rebellion against God's Word requires a "revival" to return to who God is and what God has spoken. Daniel knew this and so he ended his prayer with an urgent plea for God to act for His own sake on the basis of His love for His city, His people, and His Name.
REVIVAL is: The ACT of God to breathe new life into His people, restoring them back to heartfelt repentance and renewed obedience to His Word with a deep passion for His Presence and His Glory!
Yes, God must ACT! And if God promised that He would do something, He is always true to His Word. HE WILL ACT!
The psalmist writes, "It is time for You to act, O LORD, For they have regarded Your law as void." (Psalm 119:126)
This was the case when God gave the tablets of the Law to Moses. While Moses was receiving the Ten Commandments, the children of Israel were making a golden calf to worship what they could see with their eyes and to declare that the god they made had delivered them. How tragic it is when mankind takes matters in their own hands and creates their own god by their hands, while denying the very hand of God...in whose hands we are.
In Psalm 44, we read, " We have heard with our ears, O God, Our fathers have told us,
The deeds You did in their days, In days of old: You drove out the nations with Your hand, But them You planted; You afflicted the peoples, and cast them out. For they did not gain possession of the land by their own sword, Nor did their own arm save them;
But it was Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your countenance, Because You favored them. You are my King, O God; Command victories for Jacob.
Sometimes, God acts by allowing His people to be afflicted. These trials and afflictions would serve as a reminder to all of God's people of their own inadequacy and insufficiency and how they, and we, need God to sustain us and to act on our behalf.
In Psalm 119, we learn, "Before I was afflicted I went astray, But now I keep Your word.
It is good for me that I have been afflicted, That I may learn Your statutes" (Ps. 119:67,71).
There are times when you become more aware of your own fallen condition and you see more clearly how those around you are not taking God's law seriously. When people start to exchange the truth for a lie, it is only a matter of time before sudden destruction comes.
Various prophets spoke of how God desires to partner with us and is always searching to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are loyal to him (2 Chron. 16:9) and for a man who will intercede on behalf of His people.
The prophet Ezekiel said, "So I sought for A MAN among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found NO ONE." (Ezek. 22:30)
The prophet Isaiah said, "And there is NO ONE who calls on Your name,
Who stirs himself up to take hold of You;
For You have hidden Your face from us,
And have consumed us because of our iniquities.
Isaiah 59:16 adds, "He saw that there was NO MAN,
And wondered that there was no intercessor;
Therefore HIS OWN ARM brought salvation for Him;
And HIS OWN RIGHTEOUSNESS, it sustained Him.
So Daniel was stirred up to pray for the revival of His people...
“Hear!” (The prayers were few)
“Forgive!” (The sins were many)
“Listen” (The promise was sure)
“Act!” (The time is now for God to do something!)
Ezra would be among those who helped lead the captives to rebuild the house of God and he knew that it was because of God's grace and mercy that they could be restored.
"And now for a little while grace has been shown from the LORD our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a peg [stake] in His holy place, that our God may enlighten our eyes and give us A MEASURE OF REVIVAL in our bondage. For we were slaves. Yet our God did not forsake us in our bondage; but He extended mercy to us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to revive us, to repair the house of our God, to rebuild its ruins, and to give us a wall in Judah and Jerusalem. And now, O our God, what shall we say after this? For we have forsaken Your commandments…" (Ezra 9:8-9).
Let this become our hearts cry as well. God is ready to do a fresh work in each of our lives. The time is surely coming. The time is now! God is calling us to build His house with Him so let us agree with God's heart and pray and seek His face so that we might do all His will.
"Will You not revive us again, That Your people may rejoice in You?" (Psalm 85:6).
Let’s Do OUR PART for God to ACT:
Open your hands and heart to God
Unite with others in humble prayer
Repent of any unconfessed sin or idols
Pray for the outpouring of the Spirit
Ask for revival in all areas
Rejoice in the finished work of the cross
Trust God to act in His way and His time
This week, Read and Pray through Psalm 119 and be asking and seeking for God to revive your heart while yielding to the Holy Spirit to lead and guide you and to revive you.
Consider the PRAYERS OF REVIVAL from Psalm 119:
Psa. 119:25 Revive me according to Your word

Psa. 119:156 Revive me according to Your judgments
Psa. 119:159 Revive me, O LORD, according to Your lovingkindness
