LIVING SPRINGS FELLOWSHIP

Worship To the Glory of God

"All the ends of the world Shall remember and turn to the LORD, And all the families of the nations shall worship before You...Give unto the LORD the glory due to His name;
Worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness. Let all the earth fear the LORD...
Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him." (Psa. 22:27; 29:2; 33:8)

Everything that is and was ever created is entirely for the worship of God to the glory of God.

Since God is the highest, the greatest, and the most beautiful being that exists, it is our rightful response and privilege to worship God and give the honor and the glory that is due His Name.

Ever since God created the angels around His throne and made the heavens with the expanse of the stars and the earth with the mountains, valleys, and flowers in the field, there was ongoing singing and endless worship to the living God who reigns forevermore. He is always worthy!

Were you aware that there was actually a heavenly soundtrack being played as God stretched out the heavens when God recorded these words, "To what were its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone, When the morning stars sang together, And all the sons of God shouted for joy?" (Job 38:6-7)

How about your role in the created order? Would you consider yourself to be a true worshipper?

Worship is the word used to describe a heart posture of humility and a lifestyle that regularly bows before the Lord and seeks to exalt His Name with intimate love and obedient devotion.

In short, we are created and called to worship the Lord with all that we are and in everything that we do.

The first time that worship shows up in Scripture is in the context of Abraham being asked to offer up his only son on the mount that God would show him. (Genesis 22). However, God was testing Abraham's faith as He was not going to allow him to go through with this since it was a foreshadowing of the gospel where God Himself would offer His only Son on our behalf to provide salvation for all of us who believe on that very mount. Therefore, when worship was first introduced, we see that its essence is really about surrendered faith and sacrificial obedience.

Worship involves singing praise and making melody in our hearts in humble adoration but it also includes full obedience in all of the areas of our lives as we seek to love God and love others.

The dangers of FALSE WORSHIP are always lurking all around us since this fallen world provides many opportunities to make things and people more important than God which are forms of idolatry. This misguided and misaligned worship includes our secret sins, our selfish agendas and our personal desires whenever we want things on our own terms for our pleasure or glory.

In Leviticus 10, we read about an incident involving the two sons of Aaron who gave a profane offering which God had not commanded. This happened to take place while all the rest of the congregation of Israel were prostrate on the ground in worship when the glory of God had come. As a result, God struck down these two sons in divine judgment to invoke godly fear in the camp and to remind and warn God's people throughout all generations this important truth:

‘By those who come near Me I must be regarded as holy;
And before all the people I must be glorified.’ ”

Since God is a jealous God, He wants our hearts to be fully His alone and to be ever responsive to His unfailing love toward us. He says in Isaiah 48:11, "For My own sake, for My own sake, I will do it; For how should My name be profaned? And I will not give My glory to another."

Thus, God requires that we worship Him with sincere hearts and not with mere lip service or rushed haste or personal taste so that our acts of service are under His command with reverential awe and holiness.

In John 4, we see Jesus offering mercy to a woman who had been isolated because of her sin. When she came to realize that Jesus was more than any ordinary man, she wanted to ask Him about how to properly worship. Jesus replied to her saying that, "the time is coming and NOW IS when true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth." Once we truly believe who Christ is and we receive His finished work and His living water, we become living wells with living springs that can bring glory to God and refresh others wherever we go.

Whenever we act in way that reflects and represents His divine attributes such as His love, mercy, justice and righteousness, we are giving glory to God. God remains fully sufficient in and of Himself but when we choose to surrender, submit, and serve Him with our lives, we are able to render and reflect His glory as if we were living mirrors surrounding the living God that we might express His greatness, splendor, and beauty.

As Solomon once said, "As in water face reflects face, So a man’s heart reveals the man" (Prov. 27:19) The psalmist adds, "Let all the earth fear the LORD; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in AWE of Him." (Ps. 33:8)

Three Key Principles for worshipping the AWESOMENESS of God with AWE in our hearts:
  • Acknowledge God in all of your ways with an Honest Awareness of God.
  • Worship God in Spirit and in Truth with Humble Adoration toward Christ.
  • Exalt God and Esteem others more than self in Holy Anticipation for His Spirit.

When we have honest awareness of God's presence, humble adoration of Christ's power, and holy anticipation of the Holy Spirit's purpose, we will be living a lifestyle of worship that benefits ourselves and glorifies God!
