Building Up To the Glory of God
"And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made ("built") into a woman, and He brought her to the man." (Gen. 2:21-22)
The Lord is one and yet more than one. The trinity is a mystery to our finite minds but is a confirmed revelation for those who have spiritual understanding when reading the Scriptures. After receiving Christ, we enter into the eternal fellowship of God, who reveals Himself as a loving community of perfect unity, which is referred to as the TRI-UNITY of God.
God is one God eternally existing as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, also known as the Godhead. God is the source of all love and through His eternal love He has initiated His eternal purpose of creating and redeeming a perfected bride out of His creation, who would become His glorious Church. It could be said that God is an eternal family who creates an earthly family and then invites them to be a part of His heavenly family by faith in Him.
And if that mystery wasn't enough, we learn of another amazing mystery in the way that God chose to make the first bride for the first man. In the second chapter of Genesis, we see how God put Adam into a deep sleep and then through his side, made or "built up" a woman to be His bride. The Hebrew word for "made" is "bana" and in almost every verse in Scripture, it is the word for "building up" a structure of some kind. God was revealing a secret for a later time.
This means that God built up a bride for Adam the way He did to foreshadow what He would do at a later time when building up His Church as a bride fit for Jesus. God is working through man to get His bride ready.
Why did God choose to build up Eve from the Man?
The answer is a mystery revealed in Scripture when Jesus said, "I will build My Church..." (Matt. 16:18) and "that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish (Eph. 5:27)...This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church." (Eph. 5:32). Therefore, the Apostles speak of building one another up and doing everything for the edifying of the body of Christ. Thus, let us be about the Father's business of presenting the gospel to the lost and building up every other believer to be a bride that will one day be presented to the Lord!
Dear saint, did you know that if you believe in Christ, you are to ABIDE as His BRIDE!"
This means that your PRIMARY PURPOSE is to "walk worthy of the calling with which you are called" (Eph. 4:1) and to make yourself ready for the return of the Bridegroom, Jesus!
When Paul writes to the believers in the various cities where he planted churches, he was revealing this amazing purpose and giving them clear instructions on how to partner with the Lord to accomplish His spiritual building project of making a bride for His Son. When writing to the Ephesians, he said:
"And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love." (Eph. 4:11-16).
When you study this crucial passage carefully, we come away with some very important practical matters for BUILDING UP His Church to HIS GLORY!
1. Mature leaders equipping the body for ministry.
2. The body showing love & speaking the truth in love.
3. Each believer being united and doing their share.
We need God to start with those who have already freely received from the Lord who spiritually feed and equip the body...which then leads to the body learning to love and care for another by each part doing its share and speaking the truth in love to one another.
The Apostle Peter puts this is a powerful spiritual picture when he says, "Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ" (1 Peter 2:4-5).
Each believer is actually a living stone with a living spring that has been saved by grace and graciously given gifts from God to come alongside others to help them grow and mature in Christ, who is the Chief Cornerstone.
How about you? Are you committed to being built up and helping to build up others in Christ?
The Church is not to imitate the changing culture but the unchanging Christ! The Church is not a meeting place for you to receive an emotional high or gain unpracticed theological knowledge but is a God ordained and Christ-exalting gathering of like-minded believers who are pursuing Christ and are ready to live out their faith in a family setting where each member is able to receive and give life for the building up of a spiritual house.
Is there anything else more important to invest in and give your life toward than the building up of Christ's Church and the furtherance of HIs kingdom?
Choose to give God your very best when it comes to His Church and you will soon discover that you are doing what matters most in life and for eternity! For we were all created to know God and to make Him known to a fallen world of lost souls and that is how we can bring God glory forevermore.
“Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore receive one another, just as Christ also received us, TO THE GLORY OF GOD.” (Romans 15;5-7)
